Commenting on posts when you're not a member of a group

I follow a cluster that contains groups that I am not a member of. I just tried to comment on one of the posts from these groups (as it appeared on my feed) but when I tried to post the comment, the content that I had typed disappeared and the input box had a red outline. I tried this a few times as didn't understand why this was happening. I eventually realised I wasn;t a member of the group. Could we better signpost this? Perhaps a popup that says "you are not a member of the group that this post was published in, you must be a member to comment. Would you like to join and post your comment or discard your comment?"
